Terms of Service

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the BillShield website at billshield.com.au and our bill analysis service (collectively, the “Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

BillShield is operated by Thomas Robert Glasgow (Sole Trader), ABN 22 581 904 383, based in Queensland, Australia.

1. The Service

1.1 What BillShield Does

BillShield is an AI-powered bill analysis tool. You upload a household bill or bank statement, and our AI analyses it to identify potential savings on energy, internet, gas, mobile, and insurance bills. The Service provides a free summary of potential savings and, for a one-time payment, a detailed report including specific provider and plan recommendations, step-by-step switching guides, and negotiation scripts.

1.2 What BillShield Is Not

BillShield is not a financial adviser, insurance broker, energy retailer, or comparison service that receives commissions from providers. We do not provide personal financial advice within the meaning of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). Our analysis is general in nature and based on publicly available plan information. You should consider your own circumstances before making any switching decisions.

1.3 Independence

BillShield is funded entirely by user payments. We do not accept commissions, referral fees, or sponsorship from energy retailers, telcos, insurers, or any other service providers. Our recommendations are based solely on our analysis of publicly available plan data.

2. Using the Service

2.1 Eligibility

The Service is intended for Australian residents aged 18 and over. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these requirements.

2.2 Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for its intended purpose of analysing your own household bills. You must not:

• Upload documents belonging to another person without their consent.

• Use automated systems, bots, or scripts to access the Service.

• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of the Service.

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.

• Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the reports or content generated by the Service.

2.3 Document Uploads

You are responsible for ensuring that any documents you upload are your own or that you have the legal right to upload them. We accept PDF, CSV, and image files. Uploaded files are processed by our AI system and deleted immediately after analysis. We do not retain copies of your original documents.

3. Payments and Refunds

3.1 Pricing

The free scan provides a summary of potential savings. The full BillShield report, including detailed recommendations, switching guides, and negotiation scripts, is available for a one-time payment. All prices are in Australian dollars. BillShield is not currently registered for GST. If this changes, prices will be updated accordingly.

3.2 Payment Processing

Payments are processed by Stripe. By making a payment, you agree to Stripe's terms of service. Your payment is a one-time charge. There is no subscription, recurring billing, or automatic renewal.

3.3 Refund Policy

Because the Service delivers a digital report instantly upon payment, refunds are generally not available once the report has been accessed. However, if you experience a genuine technical issue that prevents you from receiving your report (e.g., a system error during generation), please contact us at hello@billshield.com.au and we will resolve the issue or provide a refund at our discretion.

4. Accuracy and Limitations

4.1 AI-Generated Analysis

The Service uses artificial intelligence to analyse your bills and compare them against publicly available plan data. While we strive for accuracy, AI analysis is not infallible. Results are indicative estimates based on the information extracted from your documents and the plan data available to us at the time of analysis.

4.2 No Guarantee of Savings

We do not guarantee that you will achieve the savings amounts shown in your report. Actual savings depend on many factors including your specific usage patterns, location, eligibility for particular plans, contract terms, and whether providers change their pricing after your report is generated. Plan availability, pricing, and terms may change at any time without notice to us.

4.3 Not Financial Advice

The information provided by BillShield is general information only. It does not constitute personal financial advice, insurance advice, or any other form of regulated advice. Before making any decisions about switching providers or plans, you should review the full terms and conditions of any plan you are considering and, if necessary, seek independent professional advice.

5. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, algorithms, and branding associated with BillShield are the intellectual property of Thomas Robert Glasgow or our licensors. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. Your BillShield report is licensed for your personal use. You may share it with members of your household but may not redistribute it commercially.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, BillShield and its operator Thomas Robert Glasgow will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or savings, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the Service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded or limited by law.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Thomas Robert Glasgow (trading as BillShield) from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Service.

8. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you consent to the collection and use of your information as described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services including Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI analysis), and Meta (advertising analytics). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of these third parties.

10. Modifications to the Service and Terms

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time. The updated Terms will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.

12. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
